nine lives

those novogratzs are really good at two things.  making babies and making homes. and i'm crushing them for it. 

i have been waiting for their new show, 9 by design, to premiere since last april.  back then, their book was about to hit stands and the buzz about their brood was really starting to hum.  i got the book a few months ago and flip the pages when, per usual, scheming up my dreamhouse.  it's safe to say my affection for cortney, bob, wolfie, bellamy, tallulah, breaker, five, holly, and baby major is steadily heating up - and this article warmed it up even more.  or maybe it's cortney's quote in the final paragraph -

“i had really big dreams and i’m not done..i grew up in a small town, i wanted the things i wanted and i’m going to go fight for them. life’s just out there for the taking.”

meet and greet

it's safe to say if you have received a card from me in the past two years, i picked it up at greenwich letterpress in my hood.  what the sweet lil shop lacks in size, it makes up for in witty charm, originality, and inspiration. 

bonnie tsang so beautifully captures the essence of what is easily my most favorite shop in new york.

i can't get enough of their greeting cards.  in particular, i heart these.

the greener, the greater

BE posed this question to me last night...

"what are your thoughts on this whole green revolution?"

i was expecting something much more along lines of, "are you in the mood for yogurtland?"

but ok, i can adjust.  "why yes, brian, i'm on board with being green." 

"yeah, me too. i really like this movement going on."

holy heavy...ha.  but this leads to a discussion that we need to make more of an effort to buy local food if possible. and what's more green that union square's greenmarket?  i can't think of a better time to go and start making a saturday morning ritual out of it.

snowmotion

yeah, yeah, yeah readers...you're tired of the snow.  it seems like life is slowing down because all we see out our windows is snow. 

we know you don't want to read about it, think about it, or hear about it.  probably because once we're dug out, mother nature is likely brewing another snowmageddeon for us.  but just look at it.  nyc is glowing in white.

p.m. perfection

this new york magazine article got me thinking earlier this year. what is your favorite new york city night? granted the summer has past us but we can still daydream about former eves or even upcoming ones this fall.

alright, here's my go at it -

location: my rooftop.

activity: a little thing called nothing. sitting on beach chairs. tunes listening. beer drinking. communicating. heavy laughing. staring up at the city i still can't believe i live in.

temperature: 74 degrees. slight breeze, please.

soundtrack: u2 anything.

beverages: magic hat beers.

snacks: hairbo gummy bears. all dressed up ruffles (if i could actually track them down). mini weiners. maybe some late night smores.

company: BE, my girlfriends and their boy toys of the moment.

reading material: i hope not to be reading but if anything, elle decor and the latest j.crew catalog. i guess that isn't so much reading but highly likely to be in my lap.

clothing: uber-loose, uber-broken in boyfriend jeans. long sleeve thermal. j.crew sherpa lined hoodie. jack purcell kicks. and pearls somewhere, of course.

i've wanted to make this little adventure happen for awhile now but just haven't gotten around to it. furthermore, i have no idea how to sail but i think i would make a really cute sailor.

the next time you're in new york city or if you're already my neighbor, why not hop aboard and catch the big apple by water? i've heard it is just delightful. reasons to see new york by sea -

1. you could quite possibly win 'date night of the year' with this one

2. great excuse to wear nautical stripes, boat shoes and a captain's hat

3. you can drink and sail...hey, you're not behind the wheel. complimentary cocktails on board

4. miss liberty is open for viewing all year round

and i am pretty sure i would wear this...all i need is my vintage (yes, cause i'm old now) delta gamma sailor hat. ahoy!

brooklyn brownstone bliss

a few months prior to its final curtain, domino featured a house tour of jenna lyons' brooklyn brownstone in their november 2008 edition. i remember coming across it very vividly. i was walking down seventh avenue last fall when i spotted jenna sitting pretty on the cover of that very glossy edition. i had to have it at that moment and immediately chose not to wait for my very own copy to arrive in the mail. on my stroll home, i flipped through the pages and sighed and hearted and marveled over the lyons' home sweet home. you gotta figure the girl behind j.crew's consummate creativity would have one sweet abode. then again today, i spotted her casa at Livingetc too.

the vibe i get from their home is lived in but low maintenance. i adore the contrast of natural home-i-ness and subtle touches of glamour. my favorite piece of advice offered up by mrs. lyons - never let your home be 'finished' but rather, constantly evolving. i love that.

bed and bath brilliance - blackboard paint, white linens, tapestry area rugs, espresso wood floors, and a cozy fireplace.

can you imagine having this closet? more importantly, can you imagine having everything in this closet?

and lil beckett's room...the ceiling is so whimsical and charming. easily my favorite room in the house because the lyons abandoned traditional bubblegum pink and baby boy blue. who would've thought?
