the headboard reinvented

last week, i mentioned i really wanted to invest in a headboard at some point this year. sweet suzie posted a little comment with a suggestion worth considering -

"i graduated to a headboard...really made me feel like an adult in the ole bedroom. mine however is homemade (penny saver). all it is is two pieces of wood nailed onto two posts (front and back), wrapped in a foam pad and then covered in your fabric of choice. i went with white, but the nice thing is you can always switch it up if you are trying to recreate your room. i love it!"

it got me thinking - "maybe i can make my own too?"  or at least, "what else is out there as an alternative to my $300-400 dream for a headboard?"

i'm in the market for a headboard this year.  can't say when i will have all my pennies saved up but one will crown my bed before year's end.  i'm all about mix and match and don't believe in bedroom sets that look like they walked right off the sales floor.  so i'm thinking one of these will add a fun punch to my lair.

 have you graduated to headboard yet?  i think most of us twenty-somethings are still rocking the naked bed (a.k.a. simple box frame and mattress).  am i right?  anyway, i've found lots of other similar and cheaper options, here. the website just didn't have as pretty pictures. and that's important.

i have a love/hate relationship for serena and lily. they have found me and are now sending their catalog to my home sweet home.  it makes me want to scrap my bright white linens and start fresh. however, my wallet is saying, "no ma'am."  maybe down the road.

night cap

what's on your nightstand at the moment?

any good books? i am almost done with eat, pray, love...took me long enough and now julia roberts is filming the movie all over nyc. at least i will be able to say i read the book before i saw the movie and can't pre-judge the film. i actually did this with my sister's keeper too. i wanted to see it so badly and almost caved to go sit with all the other sisters on a rainy day and just sap away. but proudly, i held off. oh and this book is sitting on my nightstand too, waiting patiently to be cracked. i'm asking about for book recommendations because i'm going on vacation at the end of them on the month and need that fun, girly, borderline-embarrassing-that-you're-actually -reading-it book to come join me. and twilight doesn't count. i've held off this long. i can't handle another guilty pleasure to obsess over.

and back to nightstands. i need to find miss peg one to add to her new guest room/sis's room at the moment. i convinced her to buy this bed a few months back. then picked out a brass studded dresser and matching mirror to compliment it. oh and this bedding too. now the nightstands are necessary. a few potential options to match:

one day i will have a dreamhouse and this dreamhouse will have at least four bedrooms. (so yes, that means this dreamhouse is gonna have to be transplanted outside of the big apple. unless i become a real housewife of nyc, which probably wouldn’t be all that bad.) but anyway, back to my dreamhouse with the dream bedrooms.

the other night, i was clicking through my own personal katie style files and mr. unnamed someone special was apparently looking over my shoulder. very matter-of-factly, he says, “so what’s the deal with all those beds you like?” not grasping his point, i asked what he meant…his response – “you like the four-post kinds.” and he was right. almost every image i collected of bedrooms included a four-post bed.

i never had one growing up so maybe the longing for one is coming from that. me and sis’s matching oak shaker-style twins were not that luxurious. there is something to be said for the depth the four posts create to a room. they can swap out the need for something to hang above your bed. they serve as an easy hook. maybe they remind me of the uber-fancy-schmancy ones you have to chalk up extra cash for at really nice hotels around the pool. hey, and if you’re even in the mood for a little something more, you can go princess-style and bring in a canopy. oh the options with a four-poster.

so is the four-post bed making a come back? i hope so. because dreamhouse wants them in the dream bedrooms.
